Potato lunch on Sunday

After you've been fed spiritual food during the worship service, please stay for an old-fashioned potato luncheon!  Bring a potato (already baked or micro-wave ready) and some fixin's to share and get ready for some fantastic fellowship!

Extra potatoes and "fixin's" will be available to make sure no one is left out on the fun!!!

Midweek Message

Our scripture lesson for Sunday, April 3, is a very familiar one, Psalm 23.  Pastor Charles will take us on a closer look at this Psalm with his sermon, "Goodness and mercy."  Please join us for fellowship, study, and worship.

March 27th @ FUMC - McCamey

What a wonderful day it was in McCamey today!  We had an uplifting worship service in the morning, a large gathering at the Convalescent Center.  And the day was capped off by our Lenten study, when we looked at "The Book of Discipline."

Welcome to our church!

It was another busy day at the FUMC in McCamey with more cleaning (inside and out) and more ministries being planned and enjoyed (inside the church and in the community).  Those coming into via the south entrance of the sanctuary will be greeted by a new welcome sign - we are growing in faith and in our welcome every day!

A tasty Thursday in McCamey

The McCamey Convalescent Center was abuzz with activity this morning as the community gathered for the weekly time of coffee and conversation.  One topic of talk was the amazingly delicious cinnamon rolls made by the Center's kitchen staff!  Yum!

This afternoon, Jim Witcher installed two handicap parking signs (along the south side of the church).  It is part of the effort to be welcoming to everyone who comes to our facility.

We also have a nice greeting by the pastor's study door.  Pastor Charles hopes it shares the welcome being offered throughout our church family.

"Super full moon" over McCamey

Last Saturday's "Super full moon" was a sight to behold!  The next time this event will occur is in 2029.  Bobbie Lester took this picture of the moon over the First UMC in McCamey!

Wednesday at FUMC, part 2!

Following the Badgers for Christ lunch, work was underway in the sanctuary to stretch the carpet by the south entrance.  The result is really noticeable, thanks to the Trustees for making this happen.

The choir rehearsal this evening was a joy to listen to.  What a blessing it is to have such faithful participants in our music ministry!

Breaking bread with the Badgers

The March edition of Badgers for Christ was an energetic affair with nearly forty students, faculty and UMC members present for pizza, home-made chocolate chip cookies and sodas.  Pastor Cathryn Snodgrass (from the First Assembly of God) spoke to the students about the need to listen, really listen to each other because that could make the difference for someone else.

Thanks to Andy Andrews, Pastor Charles, Bill Lester, Gloria Odom and Mary Witcher for their participation in today's event.

Mid-week message for March 23

Our scripture passage comes to us from Psalm 95 - Join us at 9:30 a.m. for fellowship, 9:45 a.m. for church school, and worship at 11:00 a.m. as Pastor Charles continues our Lenten sermon series from the Psalms.

UMW met tonight in McCamey!

The United Methodist Women (UMW) group met tonight in the church parlor.  Theodora Matthews, with Belinda Alkula's assistance, presented a very informative program about various women pioneers in world Methodism and in American history.  (After all, it is Women's History Month!)  Belinda Alkula provided the refreshments of angel food cake, fresh blueberries and strawberries, "Cool Whip" and various veggies with ranch dips... AND McCalister's Tea from Odessa... made fresh today!

Elliott & Stella with Grandmother Cytha Peters!

Proud grandmother, Cytha Peters, wanted to share with the church family some pictures from her recent visit with Stella and Elliott.

Spring comes to FUMC - McCamey (part 2)

Sunday at First UMC continued this afternoon with the second in our Lenten study, "UMC 101."  The topic this week was a look at "the Wesleyan Quadrilateral: Scripture, tradition, reason, experience."

Following the study, the trustee committee met and considered several items of business.  Foremost was a report on the heating units that need replaced, two bids have been received and another will be sought before a recommendation to the Ad Board.  The committee also reviewed the work being done to address the items on the facility inspection (conducted last month by Jim & Mary Witcher).  There has been a great deal accomplished already and the church is really showing from the love being lavished upon it!

The final part of the day at FUMC - McCamey was the monthly Ad Board meeting.

Among the events coming up in April: UMM breakfast on the 2nd, UMW mother-daughter dinner on the 11th, Maundy Thursday service 7pm on the 21st, Good Friday service, 7pm on the 22nd and Easter Sunrise service, 7am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

It is always a pleasure to see a church working so well together and FUMC - McCamey is really "doing it" right!

Spring comes to FUMC - McCamey (part 1)

The first Sunday of spring arrived in McCamey with reminders aplenty of God's amazing grace.

During the morning worship service, prayers were asked for the following:

Joys: *Verla F. is doing better; Beth C. is doing better.  *Spring is springing!  *Teachers and school administration (and students!) going back to school tomorrow.  *Doctors willing and able to help patients when they can’t pay right away.  *Laughter in church.  *Grace M.’s family in Tokyo doing alright.  *Eric H.’s student-athlete won the girl's state powerlifting title.   *Billie M.’s birthday this week.  *Church has new outside motion-detector light. (Thanks, Gary E.). *Joy of two visitors singing in the choir during worship: Joyce and her daughter Rhonda.

Concerns: *Recovery work in Japan. *Family mourning the passing of Ramona Brooks. *Jimmy R.’s surgery this week. *Louise C.’s sister Jane is having eye surgery in San Antonio this week. *Travis W.’s car was rear-ended by an 18-wheeler, which fortunately resulted in non-life-threatening injuries to him. He’s been released from the hospital. *Need for rain.  *Travelling mercies. This afternoon at the Convalescent Center we enjoyed our weekly worship service with the residents.  Thanks to Cytha Peters, Belinda Alkula and Bill & Bobbie Lester for sharing this time (along with Pastor Charles).

We were also blessed to be able to share in the celebration of Shirley Smith's 86th birthday.  Shirley's son, Stevie, and daughter-in-law, Vicki, were on hand and presented Shirley with a special photo quilt, such a treat for a special lady!

A Prayer in Spring

A Prayer in Spring

Oh, give us pleasure in the flowers to-day;
And give us not to think so far away
As the uncertain harvest; keep us here
All simply in the springing of the year.

Oh, give us pleasure in the orchard white,
Like nothing else by day, like ghosts by night;
And make us happy in the happy bees,
The swarm dilating round the perfect trees.

And make us happy in the darting bird
That suddenly above the bees is heard,
The meteor that thrusts in with needle bill,
And off a blossom in the mid air stands still.

For this is love and nothing else is love,
The which it is reserved for God above
To sanctify to what far ends He will,
But which it only needs we fulfill.

- Robert Frost (1874 - 1963)

Another Trustee in Action!

Thanks be to God for all the faithful folks who are helping to spruce up things around our church this spring!  This evening, Gary Elliott was tending to the light fixture outside the church.

On Friday, Belinda tested the new lights - the result is great!  Thanks, Gary.
